AmCham representatives, President Mr. Nikola Tripković, Executive Director Mr. Marko Miročević, PhD and Policy Manager, Ana-Marija Kaludjerović met today with the Minister of Economic Development, Jakov Milatović, MA, who has expressed his pleasure about the visit and opportunity to discuss about the current situation in Montenegro.

“The goal of this Government is to make significant progress in the implementation of economic reforms,  predominantly with the aim to attract foreign direct investments”, said Minister Milatovic, adding that all activities are focused on improving the rule of law and Montenegro’s path to the European Union.

Minister Milatović said that he highly appreciates the significance and support that the American Chamber of Commerce is providing to Montenegro and considers it very important, because the contribution we give in solutions, advice and proactive actions, is of a great benefit. He added that a constructive dialogue between the private and public sector and its improvement is the main goal of the Competitiveness Council of Montenegro, which he chairs.

The interlocutors agreed that the Competitiveness Council is the most efficient platform for public-private dialogue, with the aim of providing greater competitiveness of the economy and faster economic growth of the country, for the benefit of whole society.

In the continuation of the conversation, they have agreed about opportunities for further cooperation, which will be manifested through the work in the AmCham committees, whose activities are in line with the competencies of the Ministry of Economic Development, such as: labor relations, fighting gray economy and digital transformation.

“In these areas, there is a lot of space for strengthening our cooperation and the Ministry of Economic Development is working with special attention on creating conditions for sustainable and inclusive economic growth that will contribute to the better life quality of all citizens”, said Minister.

In the new Business Climate Report for the period 2019-2020, the American Chamber of Commerce had provided a comprehensive overview of the business environment, and as such, the Report is an important tool for potential investors in the Montenegrin market, but also provides guidelines and recommendations for decision makers in which direction to proceed in order to improve the business environment.

AmCham representatives welcomed Minister Milatović’s initiative regarding the  meetings and consultations with the private sector, with the aim of creating a better package of measures to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic for the first quarter of 2021.

They thanked for the reception and added that the AmCham mission is to work with the Government of Montenegro to improve the business climate and to develop even more intensive and open cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development through the activities of the committees.
