Openly with the Prime Minister of Montenegro

AmCham Montenegro organized an event entitled „Openly with Prime Minister“, with H.E. Mr. Milo Đukanović, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, in order to present the 2014 AmCham Montenegro Business Climate Report. The focus of this event was to discuss the key areas affecting the business environment in Montenegro, which are analyzed in AmCham Business Climate Report for 2014.

H.E. Ms. Margaret Ann Uyehara, the U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, gave the opening address at the event. „We are pleased to see an increased interest from U.S. companies and investment opportunities in Montenegro, especially in the tourism, energy and infrastructure sector”, said H.E. Ms. Uyehara. The Ambassador stressed the importance of the collaboration between private sector and the Government on creating a better legislative framework for investments, as well as consistent and transparent application of Law in order to create a business certainty.

AmCham Montenegro’s President, Mr. Predrag Lešić, presented the key conclusions from the 2014 Business Climate Report. The Report indicates that Montenegro is an attractive investments destination. Moreover, more than 90% of AmCham members are optimistic about their five-year business outlook. However, certain challenges in doing business are identified in the areas of: the Rule of Law, Taxation, Human Resources, Construction and Real Estate, as well as Infrastructure. Mr. Lešić emphasized the importance of this open and transparent dialogue with the Prime Minister, which enables AmCham members to communicate the challenges they face in doing business and present them to the relevant decision-makers.

During the panel discussion, Mr. Milo Đukanović, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, introduced AmCham members and guests with Government’s plans for improving the business climate in the aforementioned areas. One of key activities in 2015 will be the reform of the Labor Law. Moreover, he stressed the importance of the continuous efforts which are being made towards improving the overall business environment. Likewise, he stated that the foreign investments, but more importantly, the experience and know-how which foreign investors can provide, represent very important factors in this mission.

Prior to the beginning of the event, AmCham Montenegro Patron members had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister and the U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro. The event was attended by a significant number of AmCham members, guests, representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, as well as the presidents of local municipalities in Montenegro.
