AmCham column – Our stories: Events not to miss in Porto Montenegro this summer

Alongside spectacular concerts, performances and a premier fashion event welcoming global designers, this season, Porto Montenegro will bring luxury lifestyle to the forefront of the events scene, with the Gumball 3000 rally, Montenegro’s first polo tournament, business forums and prestigious regattas, forming what is set to be an action-packed events calendar this season.

This year’s line-up will break previous records for the number, diversity and complexity of event types hosted by Porto Montenegro. While last year’s smash-hit Clean Bandit concert received exposure on the global media scene, details of this years’ concert remain exclusive until closer to the date, but certainly pack a good punch.

The Porto Montenegro Yacht Club is due to host the world-class RC44 regatta, coming to the marina from 10-14thApril. The Bay of Kotor meets all prerequisites that make this setting a perfect fit for the event, with a stunning natural backdrop and innovative sailing boats to bring the regatta to life. The RC44 Porto Montenegro Cup 2019 is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start the sailing season in the Mediterranean, after which the race will continue on to several other top European sailing destinations, from picturesque Rovinj in Croatia to the beautiful Marstrand island in Sweden.

To coincide with Montenegrin Independence Day, Porto Montenegro will produce an insightful Play in Porto events programme on 21stMay for those interested in sampling a wide range of social, leisure and lifestyle activities in the village, as well as offering discounts and special offers across the village food and beverage outlets. On the same day, eight teams will put their skills to the test in a unique lifestyle-sporting spectacle, the annual Croquet Tournament, taking place at the new Arena, where spectators can also enjoy Champagne and other summertime refreshments as they watch the games.

Hackathon in the Port 2019 is a regional programming competition that will gather young developers, Project Managers, User Experience, Interface and graphic designers for a 3-day techie bonanza taking place 22-24thMay. This comes just days before the must-visit Spark.me digital marketing conference known in the region and beyond for its innovative approach to marketing, technology and business. From 25-26thMay, the conference gives participants the opportunity to learn current industry trends, learn from global experts and network with over 550 attendees from over 30 countries. The affair is also popular among young marketeers, start-ups and those looking to expand their knowledge in all things digital.

What’s more, the Mediterranean’s leading superyacht homeport prepares for yet another Gumball 3000 rally, a showcase of the luxury supercars and their world-famous celebrity drivers who will journey from Mykonos to Ibiza on 10thJune, making a pit-stop in Porto Montenegro. In addition to those live at the scene, over 60 million television viewers and 100 million social media viewers are expected to tune in to view the Pagani, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, AMG Mercedes, Rolls Royce and other futuristic automobiles pull in to the marina village for the annual spectacle, which also extends an invitation for those visiting Montenegro to enjoy unique entertainment and social activities.

A few short weeks after the festival at New York’s Tribeca Performing Arts Centre, the most celebrated names on the American jazz music scene form the programme for the Made in New York Jazz Festival, hosted in Porto Montenegro on 14thJune. The public will enjoy a jazz-funk repertoire with classic and novel compositions and the ever-anticipated instrumental and vocal jazz acrobatics.

As an iconic reminder of the village’s industrial past, the Synchro will, for the second year running, welcome the International Fashion Festival, which is scheduled to take place 19-20thJuly, hosting some of the world’s most renowned designers, to be announced exclusively nearer the date. Last year’s Porto Montenegro debut brought the likes of Sheika Hend Faisal Al Qassemi, LaQuan Smith, Antonio Grimaldi and Renato Balestra to headline the spectacular 3-day event, placing the luxury marina village on the map of soon-to-be international fashion destinations of interest.

Jet-setters will take to the polo field for the first time in Montenegro when the glamorous sporting event, Polo in the Port, brings together polo ponies, mallets and a handful of affluent teammates from 2-4thAugust in the spacious new Arena.

With a healthy mix of versatile venues catering to a wide range of event types, Porto Montenegro is the epicentre of the coastal events scene, with something for everybody to enjoy. Existing residents and new visitors alike can also enjoy the PMYC Beach bar and open-air cinema, waterfront Marina Park, Naval Heritage Collection and Submarine, 560-seat Auditorium and impressive Synchro, as just a few of the many locations setting the scene to this year’s evolution of the entertainment industry at Porto Montenegro.
